TeethXpress Frequently Asked Questions
Dental implants are root-sized titanium cylinders that bond with the jawbone to provide permanent support and attachment for replacing individual teeth, a group of teeth or a full arch of teeth. A dental implant may replace a single tooth; however since the implant bond is so strong, many teeth can be attached to just a few implants.
Losing teeth has many effects on a person. Health, nutrition, esthetics, confidence and well-being are all important aspects that are lost when teeth are missing. Before implants, replacement options consisted of using the neighboring teeth or sitting plastic teeth in a denture on the gum. Both are destructive to the remaining teeth and or bone/gum. These traditional treatments are limited and deteriorate in time. With the recent advances in implant dentistry, we are able to rebuild the mouth and replace the chewing function and all those factors lost with loosing natural teeth, a truly life changing experience.
Losing your teeth will affect your smile and change the shape of your face, causing you to look prematurely aged. If traditional dentures are made, the jawbone begins to shrink from constant pressure where the denture is pressing on the gums. The bone diminishes until there is no support and the dentures will not stay in. Also, eating is completely different for patients; they can no longer experience the pleasures of how food feels on their palate. In addition, chewing is less efficient and patients are not able to eat healthy whole foods leading to other medical concerns in time.
The TeethXpress protocol utilizes the strength of multiple implants in the bone to replace a full set of missing teeth. These replacement teeth are removable by your dentist but screw in permanently to the implants in your mouth. Patients are instructed how to maintain the gum health and clean under the teeth. The replacement teeth are typically attached to the implants the same day the teeth are extracted and dental implants are placed if the conditions are ideal. TeethXpress can only be provided by trained clinicians licensed in the procedure and Dr. Oshetski is the only licensed Maine provider.
