Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry Brunswick ME
Even with the latest technology that makes modern dentistry gentler than ever before, many people are still apprehensive about going to the dentist. Dr. Oshetski can eliminate dental fear and anxiety by placing patients in a relaxed state of conscious sedation. This means you’ll have little or no memory of having any dental work done.

What Is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry is not only for people that fear going to the dentist. Anybody can experience the benefits of sedation dentistry. Sedation allows patients to have more dental work done in a single appointment. Often treatment that would require five appointments or more can be performed in one single appointment. This means fewer interruptions to your daily life.

We offer different levels and types of sedation depending on your needs. Dr. Oshetski will discuss with you which option best suits your needs and expectations.

Oral and IV Sedation options start at $500 per session

Options For Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous Oxide “Laughing Gas

Light sedation is achieved through the use of a gas called Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas. The gas is mixed with oxygen and is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose.

Oral Sedation

Moderate sedation is achieved through the use of pills that are in the drug family called Benzodiazepines. A drug that many people are familiar with from this family is Valium. They produce a feeling of relaxation and drowsiness. Nitrous oxide is commonly used in combination with these pills, creating a profound amnesic effect.

Intravenous Sedation

Sedation is achieved through the use of IV administration of a sedative directly to your blood stream. It produces a profound state of relaxation and it can be used to sedate patients to a point where they are completely unaware of the dentistry performed. Dr. Oshetski is one of only a few general dentists in the state of Maine who is qualified and licensed to perform IV sedation.

Deep Sedation and General Anesthesia

Patients under deep sedation or general anesthesia are almost or completely unconscious during the entire dental procedure. They cannot be awakened until the effects of the anesthesia have worn off.
Dr Oshetski is a privileged staff member at Maine Medical Center and routinely utilizes the general anesthesia team at MMC for lengthy, or advanced treatments. Some patients such as those medically compromised or unable to sit through a procedure are also ideal for general anesthesia for their dental work.
